Letter from a little West of Chapleau

Page 9 and 10 of a lost letter

A little west of Chapleau

We have had a very good trip so far possibly slower than any one had expected when we started west. We left the Canadian Gov't Ry. at Montreal and I beleave we have made faster time since, there is so much traffic on that line and only the single track, but we are not kicking because we are enjoying every mile of the road home, it makes a difference when one is going the right way.

We talked wheat farm all A.M. and I have been figuring out plans for the ranch all P.M. I have not done any reading today, we are going thru rough country north east of Lake Superior, I was talking to some elderly men at the station one of them had a son wounded twice and then killed Nov. 4th my it seemed terrible to think of the hopes they must have had that he would come thru alive after he had been wounded twice, but no one knows what is in store for any of us an hour ahead.

Well we are enjoying a nice clear warm canadian sun today, it snowed some in the night and we passed all the tunnels and the worst of the rough country north of the lake during the night, Of coarse there are very few people living along here about one family per ten miles I guess but maby they live back of the hills for we do not see any tracks in the snow nor many [cw'y???] roads. There is lots of bush, I wish we had some of it for cord wood out home

I am all shined up for the reception we expect in Winnepeg this P.M. just before dark a lot of the boys stop there.

then comes my last night on the train. I may reach home Friday night yet.
