Dear Mother:–

An other dandy day and evening, it is cloudy and today was sultery but we like it any old way. I had 3 or 4 hours of parade this A.M. after dinner. Weir and I cleaned about 230 rounds of amunition and refilled the M.Gun magazines ready for action then I read all the rest of the P.M. till supper time, we had corned beef, cheese jam, pickles mustard tea, butter. last night we had a can of sardines in olive oil each, two helpings of salade which was made of letice, onions, ripe tomatoes, radishes, and etc. it was surely good with bread butter and jam, the butter comes in cans just like all canned goods

My platoon has the record for writing the most letters I am surely gratefull to the censor for censoring all of mine. I wonder if he knows who I am it is our platoon officer that censors our mail.

I like our officers they are of a different type to most of our old men. every man seems to not be able to say enough for each, we have perfect confidence in each and I am more than glad to be able to say this sincerely.

There is a herd of sheep near here the shepherd has a dog that follows the grain up and down so as the sheep don’t get into the grain at all. I wonder how they train them to do it, The French people can talk enough english so it spoils it for use to try to learn French we ask for any thing we want in english and we get on all right. Well bye bye Mother dear as ever your loving son Laurie.

11 months tonight since I landed in England and have not been in a firing line yet don’t it seem strange.

L.
