Dear Mother:–

This is a fine sunday A.M, 9.45, I got up about six thirty, but read some before I got up.

We got to bed about 12.15 had an easy manouver, it was fine marching along in the cool evening air. across a plot and up a steep hill with trees on it quite thick. in about an hour we came back,

This A.M. the boys were talking about ranchers and farmers, so my thoughts went back to the time you and Ted came west, the trip out to the homestead, do you remember how dark it was that night as we came in thru the Turkey Track range crossed the creek and then came to the ranch where we stayed the remainder of the night, We had dinner at Renolds and got home some time that evening I don't remember the homecoming now after some where between Renolds and home,

Later at noon we just got in off Church parade, We hold it on the side of the hill, we sit down on the grass while the padre talks. He used to be a pte in a machine gun co'y when he first came to England,

Evening again and I am sitting with my back against a post on the hill.

I got a letter from Annie tonight so I went to work and answered it right away, I do neglect writing to her, The band is playing at the bottom of the hill.

4th     11 a.m.

Well Mother dear I am on parade the boys are taking up there different classes so the S.B.s fall out, it is cloudy part of the time but warm enough to be comfortable. I just finished a letter to Eulalie the second one this year.

Yesterday P.M. we spent on a hill side watching one platoon of each co'y go thru a manouver that suited us fine. te, he,

Supper is over now so I have the evening to spend in some way what ever turns up.

We were out in a wood for a lecture this P.M. and then some manouvers just fun in the shade of the trees for a cupple of hours.

A box of soldiers comforts came tonight there was something in it for each of our platoon,

6th      9.45 A.M.

Ten  minuits for the boys to smoke, but seeing I don't smoke I will just write a few lines more.

I am still waiting on Canadian mail we have been out of luck the last I got was April 24th but it came early. so I guess the next mail thinks it can hang around all it likes, and I guess it can, for all we can say.

According to the papers there is a lot of fighting going on these days and I realize that I am lucky to not be in it.

We shot on the ranges yesterday A.M. and had a manouver in the P.M. I spent the bigest share of that time lying in the grass guarding some m.g. carriers and grenades so I could not object at all.

We had a good bible study last night, just three of us.

3.15  P.M.

Well Mother they say canadian mail is in so we will soon see how the home folks are.

We had a bath and got clean cloths this P.M. we got our shorts so we are decked out for summer now,

Bob McKeith was just telling me he never has told his folks whether we ever get a bath or change of cloths or not. So you can just inform any of those as to what I have told you about our daily life from time to time.

We surely have an awful time together some of the boys get something to kick about one day and some one else has another thing he don't like the next, so you see we have a continual round of excitement and enjoyment. I can't agree with them when they kick for I think it is just a habit I don't need to kick to get along and they have to show me if I don't get on as well as they do. with quite a bit more contentment of mind,

It seems as tho I can't write like I would like to, but maby I will have more to say after I get the mail.

bye bye Mother dear as ever your loving son Laurie

P.S. Well mother, I got one letter from Horace so I expect some more tomorrow, I would sooner that it come a few each day than all one day and none for a week again,

Some one has subscribed for the post for me I have got the last two copys. I think it comes from London. That is the closest to,

We have a school teacher here by the name of Jenkins he and I have been studying flowers together he has a great knowledge of flowers and different pond families but drink is realy undermining his life to the extent that he is coming close to failure. I surely like to be with him tho, it helps to make him feel that he an't alone in the world any way.

He has had to serve twenty eight days in the clink for violation of army rules so you can see how despondent he might be.

7th

Well Mother I got four letters from you folks last night.

bye bye as ever
Laurie.
