Letter to Teddy

22-9-17

Dear Teddy:–

I received you most welcome cards they were very pretty, I have seen some more shore scenes from the boat but I can’t quite explain any of them here,

I am glad that you are making a success of you work this year. I always felt you would make good, and if you had not I would have blamed myself for the example I set you if you had not, I don’t know what to do about the horses this fall but still I guess, I had better say now that if you winter them and the war is still on the first part of april next you had better take a fair price for any of them at any time, to just get rid of them You will have so many that it will be impossible to feed them, Keep any mare that will raise a colt each year that is the stuff, a colt that will bring in a song cash price is a good thing to have on hand look at Horaces team he sold last spring that would help him along and the young ones that he has runing around now.

The winter will soon slip away out here and if I live, I will look back at it with the brightest of memories you don’t know what it means to me to be here among the boys advocating by my life the Christ life, for when ministers fall down and will tell you that there preaching would not convert a soul in a thousand years, and that there preaching would not stand up under real out and out Christians if they would get down to the study of there bibles why you thank God that he ever lead you to the dependence on his simple thruthes, education in some of our Colleges in the minister line must lead these men from God or else they never were convert at all, they must not value his cleansing power. My Teddy that is what makes me chroach so close to God is when I think of the remorse after some of my sins and how weak I was in my resolutions, I had been written out new resolutions and signed them and put them in my testament but I couldent keep them, all because I would not confess Christ before men, There is lots more in that very boat today they try to be on both sides of the fence at once.

Well bye bye old boy you are lucky you havent a girl steady this summer maby you are young yet and you will have lots of time

as ever you loving brother Laurie.
