Letter to Mother from Somewhere in France

Somewhere in France
6-29-17[sic]

Dear Mother:–

I havent written any for two days but after that I should write. last night four of use Christian men Rattan of my batt and two boys of each of two other batt’s got together in under the high trees and talk over our Christian experiences and then I prayed and read the 15- of John we talk over each verse and then the other each had a short prayer and we lef,t but it was pouring rain when we started to go to camp and I guess we all got our pants and tunics wet thru.

I am in the same place tonight the other boys will come later

Mother we used to kick about shining brass before we came to France, but we have to do it still and our officer takes longer inspecting five men than it used to take to inspect a platoon in Canada and do you know that I am glad it is that way do you know it is nice after all to be cleaned up and it takes only a half hour daily to be shining and spotless as our captain used to say at Witley. Of coarse in action you neither wash, shave, nor shine any thing, but I havent went in yet Our boys came out the night I got to our base about 6 or 7 miles back of the front line,

I am on the M. gun section if there is no changes made again but havent taken up the training yet.

we just take phy. drill and Bay. fighting and forming fours and etc. about 5 hours a day. we are well fed a good hut to sleep in and every thing is fine

8.15 P.m. we had a good time together tonight Rattan, Rickett and we talked read the word of God and prayed together, we are going to be together again tomorrow night we want to get all the help we can from each other while we are together

good bye Mother dear as ever your loving son Laurie.
