Some where in France
7-22-17[sic]

Dear Mother:–

A beautifull Sabith morning I am sitting by a small bush about six rods from where the church parade is assembled. I am not on it for I am on Ariel guard today the first time, I don’t suppose I will bring down any Hineys tho.

My, mother it is great to be alive these days, old France has got Sask beaten for climate. it is indeed sunny France I wish you could spend a month here some summer it is so pretty. They farm here on the Minenite plan, all live in villages but it is great to look out over the fields the prairy stretches remind me of home, the slopes are a lot like they are out there no slews or any thing like that but creeks are far apart to. I can hear big shells traveling once in a while and here the big guns right along.

Mother I have become quite attached to my wire bunk and will hate to leave it when we do pull again.

Stanley was over to see me again last night. I wanted to go to see him today but got this guard to do this P.M.

I was in a village churchyard the other night and do you know that our boys out of curiosity had pryed the vaults open in the grave yard to see what they were like inside. Well it is a sight but the boys should never distroy old graves out of such a desire to see what is behind the sceen. This puts such places out of bounds to use where other wise we could go in and out all the time where ever we were.

7 P.M.

My guard is over it was nice out by the trees any way this P.M. I cleaned my equipment up for tomorrows parade after supper at 4.30 now I am in the Y.M.C.A. waiting untill 8 P.M. for service I expect that we will have one tonight. yes we are going to have a service a young sergeant Grant just came in and said that some visiting chaplain would be here at seven so any minuit I will quit a bunch of my boy freinds are here at the table talking

Well Mother dear I must say good night as ever your loving son
Laurie

Now don’t worry or feel that some thing is wrong if you don’t here from me for quite a while often, I can do just as well as ever and still may not be in a place to write or get paper           L.
