Dear Mother:–

In post I received I see how real the pictures are of the front line, to what they realy are in reality. Now the over head shrapnel that is showen well say just before day light when the sky is just mad with this, each time one explodes, there is a burst of flame, The pill boxes are just as you see in picture. All so the digging in with the shells bursting around on all sides.

16th   7.40 P.M.

Well, Mother a bunch of the boys and I are sitting at the table, writing and talking. One of the boys got a cupple of packages so we had cake and cocoa all we could eat.

Last night we had all the good candy we could eat and each day I eat several apples, My meal are just a little heavier than I always desire but most of the time I clean up on them. we had brown gravy and mashed potatoes roast beef and bread and tea for dinner no one could ask for a better meal at home.

We got paid tonight but I will not spend any money untill tomorrow.

The weather is still fine here we were out to day to see a bunch of boys presented with medals they had earned some while ago. The parade was held on a nice hillside over looking a valley that had villages and fields with an occasional large farm house and buildings to match, but most of the people that do the work live in the villages.

I received a letter from Horace to night it was good.

Bye bye Mother as ever your loving son Laurie 17-12-17
